On May 26, South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources met representatives of LG Energy Solution to discuss faster AI adoption in battery production, as the sector faces sluggish growth amid the electric vehicle (EV) market slowdown.

The ministry said the talks were part of a broader AI initiative for manufacturing and focused on helping South Korean battery makers adopt AI to improve production efficiency and competitiveness.

It added that LG Energy Solution had applied digital twin technology at its cylindrical battery production facility, increasing production speed by more than 50% and reducing investment costs.

Deputy Minister Kim Sung-youl said the government would provide support for AI upgrades in the sector.
