The program aims to support 50 companies working on 18 AI security tasks amid concerns that advanced AI could be used in cyberattacks.
The program covers four areas, including AI security product commercialization, support for AI security companies, a Korean integrated security model, and zero-trust deployments.
Five companies selected for the first development tasks.
Companies involved in the project include Sands Lab, SK Shieldus, Pentasecurity, and S2W.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
South Korea’s private market is already moving ahead of public AI security spending
- The government plans to invest 12 billion won (US$8.31 million) across 50 companies, yet the private cybersecurity market is already moving faster.
- Seoul-based Logpresso recently raised 16 billion won (US$12 million) in a series B round to expand its AI security agent model and its Extended Detection and Response (XDR) platform 1.
- The round builds on Logpresso’s work with domestic financial institutions including BNK Busan Bank, a South Korean regional bank 2.
- The company also tracks North Korean state-linked threats tied to Lazarus and Kimsuky, two hacking groups widely linked to North Korea. That puts its work close to national security needs 2.
A national program meets a wave of global AI money
- The 12 billion won (US$8.31 million) plan is a state effort to build sovereign capability in a field shaped by private capital.
- Even so, the fund is far smaller than single rounds secured by global AI firms including OpenAI’s US$122 billion raise and Shield AI‘s US$2 billion raise 3.
- The same area is drawing venture money elsewhere. SplxAI raised a US$7 million seed round to secure agentic AI systems, or AI systems that can take actions with greater autonomy 4.
- The program will not match global funding totals. Its aim is to build homegrown security technology and cut reliance on foreign vendors for critical national infrastructure 2.
