South Korea eyes Chips Act to boost semiconductor industry
South Korea’s ruling party has proposed a special Chips Act to support the country’s semiconductor industry, which is vital to its economy.
The proposal includes offering subsidies and lifting a national cap on working hours for chipmakers.
The semiconductor industry accounted for 16% of South Korea’s exports last year, signaling its importance to Asia’s fourth-largest economy.
However, the proposed bill must be approved by the opposing party to enact it into law.
