South Korea expands AI adoption across major industrial zones

South Korea’s government will support AI adoption in major industrial complexes to boost manufacturing innovation, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Resources said.

The Manufacturing AI Transformation (M.AX) Alliance, a public-private cooperation, formed a division to help industrial zones adopt AI technologies.

The division includes representatives from 10 major industrial zones, such as Ansan, Changwon, Gwangju, Ulsan, and Yeosu, which host facilities in machinery, automobile, defense, shipbuilding, and chemical sectors.

The government and alliance will work to build automated factories powered by AI and make these zones hubs for manufacturing AI ecosystems.

The ministry said it will support the establishment of essential AI infrastructure across the complexes, including attracting data centers and installing fifth-generation (5G) wireless networks.

Launched last year, the M.AX Alliance includes some 1,000 major companies and research institutes, including Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Group, LG Electronics, and Rainbow Robotics.
