Solana to host Akash’s decentralized compute network
Akash, a San Francisco-based decentralized compute platform built by Overclock Labs, said on November 2 that it will migrate its blockchain infrastructure to Solana over 24 months, after community approval.
Akash said 97% of voting token holders backed the plan, under which Akash Marketplace, AkashML, and Akash Homenode will become available natively on Solana.
The company cited low transaction costs, liquidity, and access to a large onchain user base as reasons for the move.
The migration will replace Akash’s Cosmos-based chain, extending the shift beyond its token to the network’s underlying blockchain infrastructure.
Akash said existing AKT holders will be able to swap their tokens for SPL AKT through a dedicated portal at a 1:1 ratio.
The plan passed through onchain governance. Akash has previously evaluated shared security models for its network.
The planned move aligns with Solana’s broader decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) focus, which includes compute and physical infrastructure.
