SoftBank starts mass production of AI robots

SoftBank Group said at a June 24 shareholders meeting that mass production of robots had started at an unnamed factory.

The products would be officially released soon, as it pushed deeper into what it calls physical AI.

In October 2025, SoftBank agreed to acquire ABB Ltd’s robotics business for US$5.375 billion.

The deal is expected to close in mid-to-late 2026 and is subject to customary regulatory approvals in the European Union, China, and the US.

The acquisition would give SoftBank a larger industrial robotics business. ABB, a Switzerland-based industrial technology company. Its robotics unit generated US$2.3 billion in 2024 revenue, about 7% of ABB Group revenue.

The move extends SoftBank’s robotics push.
