SoftBank said to be in talks to buy US data center investor

SoftBank Group is in discussions to acquire DigitalBridge Group, a New York-listed private equity firm investing in data centers, according to sources.

The potential deal would take DigitalBridge private.

Shares rose up to 35% following the news.

DigitalBridge, led by CEO Marc Ganzi, managed about US$108 billion in assets as of September, with a portfolio that includes DataBank and Vantage Data Centers.

SoftBank, led by founder Masayoshi Son, is pursuing the deal amid rising demand for AI-related computing capacity.

A transaction could come together in the coming weeks, though there is no certainty an agreement will be reached.
