SoftBank profit jumps on soaring AI valuations

SoftBank Group reported a net income of 2.5 trillion yen (US$16.2 billion) in Q2, beating analyst expectations by a wide margin.

The Tokyo-based conglomerate saw its profit rise mainly due to higher valuations of its holdings in AI and chip companies such as Nvidia and Intel.

SoftBank’s Vision Fund investment unit recorded a 2.4 trillion yen (US$16 billion) profit for the quarter.

The company also announced a 4-for-1 stock split effective January 1, 2026.

SoftBank’s shares jumped 78% during the three months ending in September, their strongest quarterly performance since 2005.
