SoftBank plans $2b bond sale to fund AI investments

SoftBank Group is planning to raise about US$2 billion through a new bond sale as it continues its push into AI investments, though the final size of the deal has not been set.

The firm aims to secure US$1.5 billion to US$2 billion from US dollar bonds and about €500 million (US$580 million) from euro-denominated notes.

SoftBank has already raised at least US$24 billion in loans and bonds in 2025, making this one of its largest funding efforts to date.

Founder Masayoshi Son has outlined plans for significant AI-related investments, including a US$30 billion stake in OpenAI and a broader US$500 billion AI project called Stargate.

SoftBank’s management told investors it still expects to complete the US$30 billion OpenAI tranche by the end of 2025.
