SoftBank launches AI venture in Japan with Sony, Honda

SoftBank Corp., NEC Corp., Sony Group Corp., and Honda Motor Co. have led the creation of a new company in Japan to develop Japanese-made AI for Japanese companies, informed sources said.

Each company has taken a stake of more than 10%, and several other firms are in talks to join as minority investors.

Engineers from SoftBank and Preferred Networks, a Tokyo-based AI developer, are expected to work on the project, and the company plans to apply for government support as Japan increases investment in building its own AI capabilities.
