SoftBank lines up AI infrastructure IPOs, sources say
SoftBank Group has hired banks for potential IPOs of SB Energy and its planned robotics spinoff Roze, according to two people familiar with the matter.
The move comes as founder Masayoshi Son expands the Japanese group’s push into AI infrastructure.
The sources said JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Citi, and Mizuho were working on SB Energy’s listing, which could come as early as September and may value the company at more than US$50 billion.
SB Energy, a US data center and power platform developer, said it had about 5 gigawatts of operating and under-construction power assets, more than 20 gigawatts in its pipeline, and three AI data centers under construction.
SB Energy said last week it planned to confidentially submit a draft registration statement for an IPO and was partnering with OpenAI and SoftBank Group on Stargate, a US$500 billion AI infrastructure initiative.
OpenAI selected SB Energy to build and operate a 1.2-gigawatt Texas site, while OpenAI and SoftBank Group each committed US$500 million.
The sources said Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Mizuho, and Morgan Stanley were preparing a similar IPO timeline for Roze.
Roze is a planned AI and robotics spinoff from SoftBank Group that will focus on building data centers and using robotics to improve the construction of AI infrastructure.
