SoftBank invests $457m in UK AI chipmaker Graphcore
SoftBank has put US$457 million into UK AI chip company Graphcore through a single share issue filed on April 10, CNBC reported.
A Graphcore spokesperson confirmed the funding came from SoftBank. The British startup, which develops AI chips and systems, was acquired by the Japanese investment giant in 2024.
The funding adds to SoftBank’s growing investments in AI infrastructure and hardware. The company has backed projects including the US$500 billion Stargate initiative with OpenAI and Oracle, while also expanding its semiconductor portfolio through Arm and Ampere Computing.
