SoftBank Group invests $200m in construction robot startup

SoftBank Group has invested US$200 million in Gravis Robotics, a Zurich-based startup that develops autonomous software and hardware for earthmoving equipment.

Gravis announced the series A funding in a statement on August 17, but did not disclose its valuation.

Founded in 2022 as a spinout from ETH Zurich, Gravis said its technology retrofits existing construction machines with sensors and touchscreen controls.

Its fully autonomous mode allows operators to supervise fleets of robotic machines from safer, more social environments.

Gravis also said on Aug. 17 that it was selected to retrofit heavy equipment for a US$8 million government infrastructure project in the UK.

The investment adds to SoftBank’s robotics push.

Gravis previously raised US$23 million in a November round led by IQ Capital and Zacua Ventures.
