Snowflake forecasts revenue to hit $4.33b

Snowflake Inc., US-based cloud platform, raised its full-year forecast for product revenue to US$4.33 billion, up from a previous estimate of US$4.28 billion.

The company gave a strong outlook for quarterly sales after launching new products over the last year.

For the quarter ending in July, the company anticipates a 25% increase in product revenue, reaching up to US$1.04 billion. This figure is slightly above analysts’ average estimate of US$1.03 billion.

Snowflake develops data ingestion and analytics software and has launched several new products over the past year. CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy has highlighted the integration of generative AI capabilities into its platform.

This integration is expected to impact the company’s results later this year, according to Jefferies analyst Brent Thill.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Enterprise customer acquisition driving Snowflake’s resilient growth

Snowflake’s consistent performance reflects a strategic focus on enterprise clients, with 606 customers now generating over US$1 million in trailing 12-month product revenue, representing a 27% year-over-year increase in this high-value segment 1.

This enterprise focus is further validated by Snowflake’s impressive 124% net revenue retention rate, indicating existing customers are significantly expanding their usage over time despite broader market pressures 1.

The company has successfully penetrated the world’s largest organizations, now counting 754 Forbes Global 2000 companies as customers. However, the slower 4% year-over-year growth in this segment suggests they’ve already captured many of the largest potential clients 1.

Snowflake’s remaining performance obligations of US$6.7 billion, growing at 34% year-over-year, demonstrate strong future revenue visibility and customer commitment through long-term contracts 1.

2️⃣ The three-way battle reshaping enterprise data platforms

Snowflake faces intensifying competition in a market increasingly defined by three distinct approaches: Snowflake’s cloud data warehouse, Databricks’ lakehouse architecture, and Microsoft’s integrated Fabric platform 2, 3, 4.

While Snowflake excels in SQL analytics and business intelligence with its hybrid architecture that separates storage from compute, Databricks leverages its Apache Spark foundation to offer superior performance for data engineering and machine learning workloads 2, 3.

The competitive landscape is reflected in growth rates, with Databricks reportedly achieving 60% year-over-year growth and projecting a US$3 billion annual revenue run rate, compared to Snowflake’s 26% growth rate 1, 5.
