Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp, a China-based contract chipmaker, said AI-related demand continued to support orders.

The company also raised prices for its most in-demand manufacturing capacity after talks with customers in the first quarter, with higher wafer processing charges taking effect in the third quarter.

SMIC said second-quarter revenue exceeded US$3 billion for the first time.

Profit attributable to shareholders tripled to US$479.2 million, helped by strong AI demand and a one-time gain from a subsidiary.

Wafer shipments rose 14% from the previous quarter, while the average wafer selling price increased 5.7%.

The company expects third-quarter revenue to rise 2% to 4% from the second quarter as wafer shipments continue to increase.

China contributed 90% of SMIC’s second-quarter revenue, while the US accounted for 8%.
