SK Telecom, S Korean chip firm team up to build self-reliant AI

SK Telecom is teaming up with local AI semiconductor startup Rebellions to integrate its neural processing unit (NPU) into core AI services.

The company has begun testing Rebellions’ NPU, ATOM, to evaluate its potential for large-scale AI applications.

Trials include AI-powered call summarization via agent A, spam filtering, a financial assistant on PASS, and veterinary X-ray diagnostics through X Caliber.

If the pilot is successful, SK Telecom plans to adopt ATOM-Max, an upgraded version of the chip, for commercial use later this year.

Both companies aim to expand the use of Rebellions’ NPU servers to build a self-reliant AI ecosystem in South Korea.
