SK hynix reviews ChatGPT, Copilot for wider use
SK hynix, a South Korea-based memory chipmaker, is reviewing wider use of external generative AI tools, including Microsoft 365 Copilot and ChatGPT, as it weighs productivity gains against security risks.
CEO Kwak Noh-jung said at a company meeting on June 11 that the company would gradually introduce external AI services, starting with work not tied to core technologies.
At the same time, the company is also reviewing Microsoft 365 Copilot and the potential use of ChatGPT from security and system architecture perspectives.
SK hynix already operates an in-house AI service based on open-source generative AI models and plans to let employees access a wider range of AI models through external generative AI platforms.
The caution reflects an industry precedent. Samsung Electronics in 2023 banned ChatGPT and other AI chatbots after employees uploaded sensitive internal code, raising concerns that providers could retain chatbot data.
Samsung said this week that affiliate CEOs will lead AI adoption across eight core business functions and introduce external services such as ChatGPT and Gemini across affiliates this month.
