SK hynix ramps up DRAM production for AI memory

SK hynix, a South Korean memory chipmaker, is increasing production of its 1c DRAM for use in HBM4E as it competes with Samsung Electronics and Micron in AI and server memory.

Industry sources said 1c DRAM made up about 13% of SK Hynix’s output in the second quarter and could reach about 34% in the fourth quarter.

That would put 1c ahead of the older 1b process in the first quarter of next year.

SK hynix said on its second-quarter earnings call that supply of 1c DRAM began in the second quarter.

The ramp could also matter beyond HBM, or high-bandwidth memory, as SK hynix has said it is using the 1c node for DDR5 products.

HBM4E is also moving into customer sampling.

Samsung said it began shipping HBM4E samples on May 29, 2026, while TrendForce reported SK hynix was eyeing shipments to key customers in June and July 2026.
