SK hynix Q2 DRAM market share falls to 24.9%
South Korean memory chipmaker SK hynix’s global dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) market share fell to 24.9% in the second quarter from 28.8%, even as its DRAM sales rose 37.9% from the previous quarter to US$38.59 billion, according to TrendForce.
Samsung Electronics kept the top spot with 39.4% of the market. US memory chipmaker Micron’s share reached 23.3%.
Analysts said SK hynix’s decline partly reflected its heavier focus on high-bandwidth memory (HBM), rather than conventional DRAM products, which benefited more from recent price gains.
That focus matters because SK hynix held 58% of the global HBM market in the first quarter. Analysts said overall DRAM market share may not fully reflect the company’s competitiveness as AI-related demand shifts toward HBM.
Industry conditions also suggest demand for AI memory is tightening supply of conventional DRAM and supporting prices. That helps explain why Samsung Electronics and Micron posted faster DRAM sales growth than SK hynix in the quarter.
