SK Hynix posts record Q2 on strong AI memory demand
South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix reported record operating profit and revenue for the second quarter of 2025, driven by increased demand for high bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI chipsets.
The company’s shares rose by over 3% in early trading.
The company recorded revenue of 22.2 trillion won (US$16.2 billion), surpassing analyst estimates of 20.5 trillion won (US$15 billion).
Operating profit reached 9.2 trillion won (US$6.7 billion), exceeding the forecast of 9 trillion won (US$6.5 billion).
Compared to the same period last year, revenue increased by more than 35%, while operating profit rose nearly 69%.
Strong quarterly growth was driven by favorable pricing and steady demand, with the firm expecting continued momentum through the rest of 2025.
HBM, which accounted for 77% of Q2 revenue, remains central to SK Hynix’s success, with key clients like Nvidia and projected doubling sales growth this year.
SK Hynix plans to mass-produce HBM4 by year-end and boost 2025 capital expenditure, as it maintains market leadership over rivals Samsung and Micron.
