SK hynix, a South Korean memory chipmaker, said on September 18 it launched its corporate venture capital brand, SK hynix Ventures.

The company introduced the brand at a launch event in Silicon Valley as it expands investment across the AI sector.

The company said SK hynix Ventures builds on a corporate venture capital operation it has run since 2015.

The new brand expands its investment focus beyond semiconductors and emerging technology to AI computing, data centers, system software, and optical interconnects.

CEO Kwak Noh-Jung and other executives met venture capital firms and startup representatives at the event to outline its strategy and discuss future technology partnerships.

The move comes as SK hynix partners with Nvidia on AI factories and has framed high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, as a driver of the memory upcycle.

Optical interconnects remain a bottleneck in scaling AI data centers.
