🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The partnership rests on a sovereign AI cloud platform
- RE:AI is a sovereign AI cloud built to keep data onshore in Singapore 1.
- Singtel offers the service through data centers built for energy efficiency, with direct-to-chip liquid cooling and high-density capacity for AI workloads 1.
- NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 chips power RE:AI, while Singtel’s Paragon platform manages cloud and network services 1.
- The setup helps organizations handle infrastructure complexity, skills shortages, and rising computing needs that often keep AI stuck at the pilot stage 2.
Singtel is applying agentic AI in its own customer operations
- Singtel Group sees itself as an AI adopter, provider, and enabler 3.
- Singtel Group started a pilot with Sierra in late January 3. Sierra is an AI startup focused on customer service 3. The work began in Singtel Singapore’s customer care team with its AI assistant Shirley 3.
- Shirley is built to understand local expressions, including Singlish, the informal English commonly spoken in Singapore 3.
- Singtel said Shirley went live in under 10 weeks. In its first six weeks, it handled more than 70,000 customer cases 3.
- Running localised AI in its own operations gives Singtel experience it can use with enterprise clients, linking infrastructure services with lessons from day-to-day deployment.
