Singapore revokes crypto firm BSQ payment license
Singapore’s central bank said on May 21 it revoked the major payment institution license of Bsquared Technology, a crypto liquidity provider known as BSQ, after finding serious breaches in its digital payment token business.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore said the issues included weak risk management and conflict-of-interest controls.
The regulator also cited outsourcing rule breaches, and multiple false or misleading statements while BSQ was licensed.
MAS said the revocation took effect on May 14.
BSQ reported no outstanding customer assets but must file an auditor’s closure certificate.
MAS said it is reviewing the responsibilities of BSQ’s key officers in a rare enforcement step, with 37 digital payment token providers currently licensed in Singapore.

Bsquared lost its license over more than weak controls
- Crypto liquidity providers help markets run smoothly. They add trading volume so buy and sell orders can clear fast and with steadier prices 1.
- The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), Singapore’s central bank and financial regulator, said the “false or misleading” information appeared more than once. It stretched from the firm’s first license application through MAS’ inspection 2.
- MAS also found gaps in the firm’s risk management, conflict-of-interest rules, and outsourcing arrangements with related entities 3.
- Bsquared’s website now returns a “Page not found” message for its risk disclosure page. Its footer also carries a 2026 copyright date 4.
Singapore is tightening standards for its crypto hub
- The decision fits Singapore’s push to be a trusted crypto hub. MAS issued 13 new licenses in 2024 5.
- The case warns licensed digital payment token providers that compliance must continue after approval. A license does not last forever.
- Regulators reviewed the conduct of Bsquared’s “key officers,” which puts responsibility on individuals as well as the firm 3.
- Tough enforcement could make Singapore more attractive to large financial firms and institutional crypto participants that want clear rules 6.
