Singapore retail sales rise 5.2% in August, beating forecasts
Singapore’s retail sales grew 5.2% year-on-year in August 2025, beating July’s 4.6% and analysts’ 4.8% forecast.
Excluding vehicles, retail sales rose 4.6% year-on-year, with monthly growth at 0.5% overall.
Nine of 14 retail categories saw gains, led by watches and jewellery (11.2%), recreational goods (9.9%), and motor vehicles (8.9%).
Sales dropped in department stores, food and alcohol retailers, minimarts, petrol stations, and apparel and footwear.
Total retail sales reached S$4.3 billion (US$3.3 billion), with 13.1% from online; F&B sales fell 0.4%, though fast-food and catering grew.
