Singapore Management University debuts tech accelerator for startups
Singapore Management University (SMU) has launched the Urban SustaInnovator (USI), a new accelerator for urban solutions and sustainability startups, during the 12th Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition in Singapore.
The USI is a 12-month, zero-equity, non-residential program open to startups worldwide and backed by a consortium of public and private partners, including A*STAR, Antler, and ST Engineering.
This year’s competition drew 1,572 applications from 91 countries, with 60 finalists competing for S$2.5 million (US$1.93 million) in cash, support, and mentorship from industry partners.
Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat officiated the launch, highlighting the accelerator’s goal to support startups addressing challenges like decarbonization and sustainable urban development.
SMU said the program will offer mentorship, industry connections, and support for commercialization.
The USI aligns with Singapore’s broader efforts to attract global tech talent and strengthen its role as a regional innovation hub.
