Singapore firms race to adopt AI despite system gaps: report
HCLTech, an India-headquartered technology services company, said in a report with Omdia, released on September 9, that Singapore enterprises are pushing AI into mission-critical work faster than their systems and controls can keep up.
In the survey, 70% of Singapore leaders said all competitors in their industry would use autonomous AI systems for mission-critical work within 12 months.
Another 81% said both legacy and modernized applications still need significant overhauls to support AI.
The report also found that 49% of respondents cited insufficient processes for monitoring and auditing AI systems as a governance barrier.
Separately, 86% of Singapore organizations said they are seeking advice to address AI skills gaps and speed up implementation.
The Singapore findings were based on 43 respondents from organizations with annual revenue of US$1 billion or more.
The findings come as Singapore highlights AI as a national focus area, while the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development policy database lists an AI governance testing toolkit called AI Verify.
HCLTech, which offers AI services, also launched an AI Cloud Native Lab in Singapore with the Singapore Economic Development Board in November 2024.
