Singapore fintech firm Aspire expands into US

Singapore-based fintech Aspire is making a public push into the US after months of operating quietly.

It offers corporate cards and finance tools for startups with cross-border needs, taking on rivals including Ramp, Brex, Rho, and Mercury.

The rollout will first support existing clients expanding in the US before targeting American startups. Aspire counts more than 50,000 customers, mostly in Asia.

Its US setup includes partnerships with Deel, Stripe, Mastercard, and Plaid, plus an arrangement with nationally chartered bank Column.

Baronchelli also said Aspire has operated at breakeven since its US$100 million series C in 2023 and is seeing 50% year-on-year growth, but the company did not disclose specific revenue or profit figures.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Aspire’s secured card model and multi-currency accounts court foreign founders

  • Aspire aims its US product at startups that run operations across borders.
  • Instead of judging applicants by US cash balances or revenue, Aspire issues a secured commercial charge card with spending limits linked to a collateral deposit 1.
  • The setup fits newly formed US subsidiaries or foreign founders who lack the financial history that providers like Ramp or Brex often expect 1.
  • Aspire also provides multi-currency accounts in euros, British pounds, and Singapore dollars, which helps companies move funds across markets 2.

The corporate card war is now a battle for the global financial stack

  • Aspire’s expansion moves competition beyond cards into a broader bundle of finance tools 3.
  • Offerings cover foreign exchange, bill pay, and treasury management, so finance teams can run more of a company’s financial operations in one place 24.
  • Virtual card transaction value is projected to reach US$6.8 trillion by 2026 1.
  • Aspire concentrates on globally active startups, which leaves room for niche approaches even in the crowded US market.
