Likee, a Singapore-based TikTok-like app, saw a massive surge in downloads and usage in the United States over the weekend.

The app, known for its AI-powered video feed, experienced a 143% spike in downloads and a 37% rise in user activity on Jan. 18 compared to the previous day.

The trend continued on Jan. 19 with an additional 11% rise in usage.

Apptopia reported an even more dramatic jump, with Likee’s daily downloads skyrocketing from fewer than 10,000 to nearly 167,000 on Jan. 19, and 286,000 on Jan. 20.

Launched in 2017 by the Singaporean tech firm Joyy, Likee has historically attracted most of its users outside the US, boasting 33.9 million monthly users as of November.

With TikTok’s future in the US uncertain following a temporary ban, alternative apps like Likee are benefiting from disruption.
