SGX plans Bitcoin, Ether perpetual futures for US investors
Singapore Exchange Ltd (SGX), a Singapore-based exchange operator, is preparing to offer Bitcoin and Ether perpetual futures to US institutional investors after filing with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission last month.
As a registered overseas exchange, SGX can offer the contracts to US institutions if the CFTC raises no objection within ten days.
Perpetual futures let traders hold leveraged positions without an expiry date. SGX’s contracts use fiat collateral, require 35% margin, and trade 22.5 hours a day on five weekdays.
The move expands access to contracts SGX already lists rather than introducing a new product. It also comes as more regulated venues pursue crypto perpetuals.
Crypto-native platforms still dominate the market, while SGX has recorded about US$6 billion in perpetual futures trading since launch.
