SG’s Revenue Scaler acquires ecommerce analytics firm Kabana

Revenue Scaler, which operates in Southeast Asia and announced the deal from Singapore, has acquired Kabana, an ecommerce analytics platform, to strengthen its AI-powered offerings in the region.

Revenue Scaler provides software tools that support ecommerce businesses across Southeast Asia.

Kabana offers analytics for brands and sellers on platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, and Shopify.

Revenue Scaler said that Kabana’s capabilities in tracking store performance, product movement, and operational metrics will be integrated with its existing market intelligence tools.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Analytics acquisitions reflect industry-wide strategy to buy rather than build competitive intelligence

Revenue Scaler’s acquisition of Kabana follows a well-established pattern where companies purchase analytics capabilities instead of developing them internally.

Major retailers like Lowe’s acquired Boomerang Commerce in 2019 specifically to enhance pricing and merchandise assortment strategies through retail analytics 1. Similarly, Walmart acquired predictive analytics platform Inkiru in 2013 to improve site personalization and campaign optimization 2.

Consulting giants have made similar moves, with Accenture acquiring Search Technologies in 2017 to expand content analytics capabilities 3, and Bain & Company acquiring alternative data analytics firm Pyxis in 2019 to enhance consumer behavior analysis 4.

This “buy versus build” approach allows companies to immediately access proven technology and experienced talent rather than spending years developing comparable capabilities from scratch.

The pattern suggests that analytics platforms have become too specialized and complex for most companies to develop effectively in-house, making strategic acquisitions the preferred path to competitive advantage.

2️⃣ Southeast Asia’s AI boom creates massive market opportunity for ecommerce intelligence platforms

Revenue Scaler’s timing aligns with explosive growth projections for AI adoption across Southeast Asian ecommerce.

AI investment in the region is expected to surge from USD 1.7 billion in 2022 to USD 25 billion by 2030, with over 62% of businesses already integrating AI into core operations 5.
