SGInnovate backs $5m round in US carbon capture firm Vycarb

Vycarb, a Brooklyn-based climate tech company, has raised US$5 million in a seed round led by Twynam, with participation from MOL Switch, Hatch Blue, Clocktower Ventures, Idemitsu, and SGInnovate.

The company says the funds will be used to accelerate the development and deployment of its water-based carbon capture and storage system.

Early investors include Rio Tinto and BluescopeX.

Vycarb’s technology converts CO₂ from industrial sources into dissolved bicarbonate in natural waters, aiming for long-term carbon storage.

The company has piloted its system at several sites, including the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York.

Vycarb reports selling carbon capture credits to buyers such as Stripe and Milkywire, and is a semi-finalist in the US Department of Energy’s CDR purchase program.

Vycarb targets sectors like bioenergy, power, cement, steel, and coastal ports for future deployments.
