SG probes Nvidia chip export violations involving Dell, Super Micro

Authorities in Singapore are investigating whether servers from Dell and Super Micro sent to Malaysia contained Nvidia chips restricted by Washington’s sanctions.

Law Minister K Shanmugam announced the probe follows the arrests of individuals accused of misleading suppliers about the servers’ end-users and shipping them from Singapore to Malaysia.

The investigation is focused on whether the servers were potentially rerouted to other countries after leaving Malaysia, according to Shanmugam.

Singapore has requested additional information from both Malaysia and the United States to determine the hardware’s final destination.

Preliminary findings indicate that the servers may include Nvidia chips subject to US export restrictions, though this has not yet been confirmed.

Representatives from Dell, Super Micro, and Nvidia have not commented on the investigation.

Meanwhile, Shanmugam emphasized that this investigation is independent and based on an anonymous tip, unrelated to direct requests from foreign governments or US export control directives.
