Joseph Schooling, Singapore’s first Olympic gold medallist, has shifted from competitive swimming to venture capital by joining Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India as an associate.

“As he embarks on this new journey, he will be working alongside our seasoned investment professionals to gain more experience and insights into assessing and making investments in high-growth startups,” the venture capital said in a LinkedIn post on Monday.

Schooling gained international acclaim for his gold medal performance in the 100m butterfly at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He retired from competitive swimming in April.
