SG maritime electrification startup Pyxis closes first $10m funding

Singapore-based maritime electrification startup Pyxis has raised S$13 million (US$10.06 million) in the first close of its S$18 million (US$13.93 million) growth funding round.

Investors in this round include Shift4Good, Motion Ventures, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines’ MOL PLUS, and SEEDS from SG Growth Capital.

Pyxis said the funds will be used to scale manufacturing of its electric vessels, expand its energy management platform Electra, and roll out more marine charging stations across Asia.

The company also secured green financing from OCBC to support vessel deployment and infrastructure expansion.

The firm reported 17 electric vessel orders from multiple customers in the region, and has deployed two charging sites, with more planned.

Pyxis signed a heads of agreement with MOL (Asia Oceania) to explore a potential joint venture.

The company is expanding in Indonesia through a partnership with Utomodeck Group, and plans to launch a new electric vessel model for the hospitality sector in early 2026.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Singapore’s 2030 e-harbour craft rule sets a clear path; Indonesia timing depends on policy and partners

  • From 2030, all new harbour craft in Singapore must be fully electric or run on B100 biofuel or hydrogen 1. Operators get five years to plan, while the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) runs a two‑year Marina South Pier charging trial from April 2024 to shape standards and a masterplan 12.
  • The Pier’s 150 kW unit can charge a 500 kWh vessel in three hours, enabling 6 to 8 sailings and up to 480 kg lower carbon per vessel daily 1. Only 6 of 1,600 craft are electric, so financing will steer conversions 1. Pyxis is expanding in Indonesia with Utomodeck, and the sources list no national e‑harbour craft rule or charging standards there 12.

Investors and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) vendors can chase Southeast Asian port tenders as fleets electrify

  • MPA’s patrol craft tender asks for battery charging features, secure compartments, and cooling systems by Q1 2028 3. The boats also need dispersant spraying and firefighting gear 3, which pushes power needs that favor grid‑connected BESS to avoid peak charges.
  • Ports will need many hubs, like Volt’s 80‑point, 360 kW bus site 4. EPC firms and BESS vendors can offer bundled e‑HC chargers with storage, sized with trial data for 2030 plans 2.
