SG home decor startup Livspace raises $50m ahead of IPO
Singapore home decor startup Livspace has raised 427.21 crore rupee (US$50 million) in internal funding from its Singapore-based parent company, according to regulatory filings.
The funding was achieved through a rights issue, involving the issuance of 1.85 crore equity shares (18,500,000) at 230 rupee (US$2.75) per share.
This capital infusion is part of Livspace’s plan to move its domicile back to India as it prepares for an initial public offering (IPO).
While the company has not announced a specific timeline for the IPO, cofounder Ramakant Sharma indicated in 2024 that Livspace aims for a public listing by late 2025 or early 2026.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ India’s startup ecosystem evolves from capital flight to homecoming
The current wave of “reverse flipping” by startups like Livspace represents a significant shift in India’s entrepreneurial landscape.
For years, Indian startups established overseas holding companies to access global capital, a trend that the Economic Survey 2022-23 identified as having negative implications for the domestic economy 1.
This reverse migration is enabled by government policy changes, like the September 2023 removal of NCLT clearance requirements mentioned in the article, that have simplified the previously complex redomiciling process 2.
The trend signals India’s maturing capital markets, with the Economic Times reporting that improved IPO opportunities and domestic funding are primary drivers bringing companies back 3.
The impact extends beyond symbolic homecomings. These returning startups have created over 900,000 direct jobs according to government data, demonstrating their economic significance 1.
With companies like Flipkart, PhonePe, Zepto, and now Livspace all pursuing this strategy, India’s regulatory reforms are showing tangible results in capturing more economic value domestically.
2️⃣ Strategic timing of domicile shifts precedes capital market access
Livspace’s redomiciling effort follows a clear pattern where Indian startups restructure operations 12-24 months before planned public offerings.
This timing is strategic, as evidenced by Livspace’s reported IPO timeline of late 2025 or early 2026 mentioned in the article, which aligns with their current redomiciling efforts.
