SG equity firm Quadria Capital raises $1.1b for healthcare

Quadria Capital, an Asian healthcare private equity firm headquartered in Singapore, has closed its fund III, securing nearly US$1.1 billion in commitments to advance healthcare transformation across Asia.

This includes US$954 million in primary commitments and US$114 million in co-investment capital. The total amount exceeds the initial target of US$800 million, despite a challenging fundraising environment.

Quadria anticipates an additional US$300 million in co-investment capacity during the investment phase, which could bring the total committed capital to US$1.3 billion.

Founded in 2012, Quadria Capital manages over US$4 billion in assets across 27 investments in markets including India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

The firm has already deployed nearly 40% of its capital, with investments in companies such as Aragen Life Sciences, NephroPlus, and Maxivision.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Asia’s healthcare fundraising success bucks global downward trend

Quadria’s successful raise contrasts sharply with broader private equity fundraising struggles, highlighting the exceptional appeal of Asian healthcare investments.

Global private equity fundraising fell for the third consecutive year, ending 2024 at $1.1 trillion, down 24% year over year 1.

In the Asia-Pacific region specifically, fundraising hit a 10-year low with investors increasingly focusing on larger, more experienced funds 2.

Quadria’s ability to exceed its target by over 30% demonstrates investors are becoming highly selective, concentrating capital in sectors with proven resilience and specialized managers with track records.

The fund’s 60% size increase from its previous vehicle and the 80% increase in existing investor commitments reflect growing conviction in healthcare’s structural advantages in emerging Asia despite the challenging environment.

2️⃣ Asia Pacific healthcare market’s rapid growth trajectory attracts institutional capital

The Asia Pacific healthcare market is projected to grow at a 21% annual rate, expanding from $2.3 trillion in 2023 to $4.3 trillion by 2030 3.

This exceptional growth rate is attracting sophisticated institutional investors seeking both financial returns and impact in a sector relatively insulated from broader economic volatility.
