🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Energy storage investment accelerates amid global energy transition
VFlowTech’s $20.5 million funding round reflects a broader trend of increasing investment in energy storage technologies globally.
In 2024, global energy transition investment reached $2.1 trillion, marking an 11% increase from the previous year, with energy storage identified as a key sector within this investment landscape 1.
The timing of VFlowTech’s funding coincides with projections that energy storage in emerging markets will grow at an annual rate of 40%, potentially adding 80 GW of new storage capacity by 2027 2.
While lithium-ion batteries dominate with 98.8% market share, VFlowTech’s focus on vanadium redox flow batteries represents an alternative approach to address the increasing need for long-duration storage solutions 3.
The company’s emphasis on a 25-year lifespan for their storage technology addresses a critical market need, as grid-scale storage systems need to demonstrate long-term reliability to justify infrastructure investment 4.
2️⃣ Singapore’s strategic positioning as a clean energy innovation hub
VFlowTech’s growth in Singapore aligns with the nation’s broader sustainability ambitions and positioning as a clean energy innovation center.
The Singapore Green Plan 2030 establishes clear national targets, including quadrupling solar energy deployment by 2025 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, creating a supportive environment for companies like VFlowTech 5.
