SG data center firm DayOne bags over $2b series C

DayOne Data Centers, a Singapore-headquartered data center operator, has entered into definitive agreements for over US$2 billion in series C equity financing.

The round was led by Coatue and included investors such as the Indonesia Investment Authority, alongside participants from the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

It marks one of the largest private capital raises in the sector.

The company said the new funds will support expansion in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Capital will be used to develop its Finland platform in Lahti and Kouvola, and to grow its presence in Singapore, Johor, Batam, Thailand, Japan, and Hong Kong.

DayOne said it has secured about 1GW in customer commitments, with the series C round priced at a 100% premium to the prior round.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Finland delivery milestones remain unverified amid billion-euro plans

  • DayOne’s €1.2 billion Lahti plan and joint Kouvola build target 300 MW in Finland 1. Public sources do not verify building permits, environmental impact assessments, or grid energization dates; the Lahti site is zoned for industry 2.
  • Eltel won €38 million to build a 110 kV substation plus cabling in Lahti 3 as DayOne has a grid deal with Lahti Energy 4; sources lack proof of grid capacity or a binding MW allocation, which sets 2027 start for first 50 MW and path to 128 MW 5.
  • Reports tie the Kouvola site to ByteDance 5. DayOne says Lahti talks continue with no agreements 5, and sources omit binding Kouvola deals, so the “about 1 GW” in the series C may cover signed contracts or a wider pipeline.

Singapore–Johor–Batam buildout opens early moves for network operators

  • DayOne expands across Singapore–Johor–Batam as BW Digital’s NCC arrives in late 2025 6 and Singtel–Telin’s INSICA targets Q4 2026 7. Carriers plus dark fiber providers can map landing sites and routes to win anchor deals.
  • Operators moving to Batam’s Nongsa Digital Park in an Indonesian special economic zone include Singtel, BW Digital and GDS 7. IXPs plus CDN providers should add peering and edge PoPs in Nongsa for workloads under 2 ms across the strait 8.
  • Racks Central plans 90 MW in Johor for 2026 and 95 MW in Batam 9. Investors can track permits and power awards to time capacity ahead of campus opening.
