SG-based women’s health brand bags $2.7m pre-series A

Moom Health, a Singapore-based women’s health supplement brand, has raised S$3.5 million (US$2.66 million) in a pre-series A funding round.

The investment was led by Wipro Consumer Care Ventures, with contributions from DSG Consumer Partners, Racer Ventures, and HPRY Holdings.

Founded in 2021 by co-founders Maya and Mili Kale, Moom Health specializes in supplements for the health needs of Asian women.

The company plans to use the funding to expand its product range, strengthen its supply chain, and enter new markets. It currently operates in Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Women’s health supplements are witnessing significant investor interest amid historical research gaps

Moom Health’s successful $3.5 million funding round reflects a broader trend of investment in women’s health supplements, similar to Ritual, which raised $25 million in Series B funding in 2019 to address prenatal vitamin gaps 1.

This investor confidence comes against a backdrop of historical underrepresentation of women in clinical trials, which has led to significant gaps in understanding sex-specific health outcomes and responses to medications 2.

Despite the FDA establishing an Office of Women’s Health and the NIH mandating the inclusion of women in clinical research in 1993, discrepancies in women’s health research continue to exist 2.

The market for targeted solutions like period cramp supplements is projected to grow substantially, reaching $1.658 billion by 2034, driven by increased consumer awareness and millennials’ preference for natural remedies 3.

The WHI study, which received $300 million in federal funding in the 1990s, marked a turning point in acknowledging the importance of women’s health research, highlighting how historically underfunded this area has been 4.

2️⃣ Cultural context creates unique opportunities for women’s health brands in Asia

Moom’s positioning as products “built by the Asian woman, for the Asian woman” addresses a significant market gap, as 85% of women in Southeast Asia report struggling to find reliable information on female health topics 5.

Cultural norms across Asia significantly impact women’s health, with societal taboos often discouraging open discussions about health issues beyond reproductive health 6.

In many Asian communities, women require consent from male guardians for healthcare decisions, limiting their access to essential services and creating barriers that specialized products can help address 7.
