🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Venture capital’s evolution from Silicon Valley-centric to globally distributed

Fluent’s launch highlights a fundamental shift in the VC landscape that’s been decades in the making.

The statement that unicorns existed in just 4 cities in 2013 compared to over 150 today represents a dramatic democratization of startup success across global ecosystems.

This transformation reflects a restructuring of innovation flow. Historically, business models originated in Silicon Valley and spread outward, but now successful models emerge from diverse regions like Asia and Latin America.

The industry’s evolution has progressed from wealthy family funding (Rockefellers, Vanderbilts) to professional firms post-WWII to today’s specialized firms like Fluent that leverage global networks and data-driven approaches 1.

By highlighting successful models from Asia being replicated globally (like infra.market and Zetwerk), Fluent is recognizing that innovation has become multi-directional rather than Silicon Valley-outbound.

2️⃣ The rise of network-powered venture capital

Fluent’s approach of enlisting 75+ unicorn founders and tech leaders as limited partners represents a shift in how venture capital operates.
