Sequoia leads series C for US cloud startup at $1b valuation

Blacksmith, a US-based startup that provides cloud infrastructure for software build and test workloads, announced a series C led by Sequoia Capital at a US$1 billion valuation.

Premji Invest and existing backers Peak XV Partners, GV, and Y Combinator also joined the round.

The funding brings Blacksmith’s total capital raised to US$125 million.

Blacksmith said weekly continuous integration jobs on its platform rose from 5 million in January to more than 90 million.

The company also said it serves more than 10,000 customers.

Blacksmith said it will use the money to expand its team and computing capacity. Its current compute footprint spans data centers in the US and Europe.

AI-assisted coding can strain CI systems, while GitHub Actions users can also self-host runners on their own infrastructure.
