Sequoia Capital joins $60m series C in US startup Zafran Security

Zafran Security, a New York-based cyber exposure management startup, has raised US$60 million in a series C round led by Menlo Ventures, with backing from Sequoia Capital, Cyberstarts, and others.

The new funding brings Zafran’s total capital raised to US$130 million.

Zafran plans to use the new funding for product development and expansion into new markets.

Zafran develops AI-powered tools to help companies identify, assess, and address security vulnerabilities.

The company said its annual recurring revenue has more than tripled since its previous round, and that its customer base includes several Fortune 500 firms.

Zafran also announced the launch of Agentic Exposure Management, its new AI-driven platform for automating asset inventory, vulnerability detection, risk assessment, and remediation.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Zafran growth claims lack detail

  • A funding release says annual recurring revenue (ARR) tripled with Fortune 500 customers, but it leaves out absolute ARR plus total customer count and valuation 1. That gap makes it hard to size its position against Wiz (cloud security platform) or Tenable (vulnerability management vendor).
  • The claim that 90% of critical vulnerabilities are not exploitable 1 is the core pitch. Teams should focus on the 10% that pose real incident risk. No customer case studies document drops in breach incidents or time-to-remediation (time to fix) across varied environments, so we cannot tell if this beats incumbents that many enterprises already use.

Service providers can build on Zafran’s partner push

  • The partner program targets channel partners (resellers and distributors) plus technology alliance partners (software and infrastructure vendors that integrate via APIs) 2. Integrations span Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) and cloud platforms. It connects to Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) with ticketing systems 3. Examples include CrowdStrike (endpoint security) with SentinelOne (endpoint security). Tanium (endpoint management and security) pairs with AWS Systems Manager (AWS SSM) 4. ServiceNow (ITSM) links with Jira (issue-tracking) 3. Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) and systems integrators (consultancies that assemble and deploy complex IT systems) could package services around the platform.
  • Zafran Detector (a vulnerability scanning capability) has a no-new-agent setup 4 that uses existing endpoint agents or native cloud tooling. Managed Service Providers (MSPs) can run fast assessments without deployments, which can cut sales friction for mid-market clients.
