Sequoia-backed defense startup Kela acquires AI firm Pelanor

Israeli defense startup Kela has acquired Pelanor, an AI company focused on cloud cost analysis, in a deal estimated at tens of millions of dollars.

Pelanor, founded in 2022 by former Unit 8200 members, provides a platform that uses AI to monitor and optimize cloud spending for organizations.

Kela was launched in July 2024 and has raised about US$100 million to date from investors including Sequoia and Lux Capital.

The company, led by CEO Alon Dror and president Hamutal Meridor, is developing an open platform designed to integrate commercial technologies with military infrastructure.

Kela currently employs 25 people, while Pelanor has a team of about 15.

The acquisition marks Kela’s first deal as it seeks to expand its capabilities in defense and technology.
