Founded in 2022 by Winston Weinberg and Gabe Pereyra, Harvey has raised over US$800 million from investors such as Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital, and the OpenAI Startup Fund, according to PitchBook.

Usage growth among existing clients has significantly contributed to its revenue and user expansion.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Harvey’s growth reflects legal tech’s dramatic funding explosion

Harvey’s $100 million ARR milestone comes during a significant surge in legal technology investment that has transformed the industry landscape.

Legal tech funding jumped from $233 million in 2017 to over $1 billion in 2018, representing a substantial increase in just one year 12.

The broader legal tech market has expanded to $31.59 billion in 2024, with projections reaching $63.59 billion by 2032 3.

Within this growth, AI-focused legal technology represents a rapidly expanding segment, valued at $12.19 billion in 2023 and projected to reach $165.31 billion by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate of 33.6% 4.

This context helps explain how Harvey secured over $800 million in funding despite being just three years old, as investors have significantly increased their interest in legal AI solutions during this same period.

2️⃣ Quantifiable efficiency gains drive Harvey’s rapid customer expansion

Harvey’s description of customers quickly expanding from “a couple hundred seats” makes economic sense given the measurable productivity gains AI delivers to legal professionals.
