SeaX Ventures, a global deep-tech venture capital firm, said on August 4 that it had appointed former Microsoft corporate vice president Desney Tan as a venture partner.

He will help find and assess AI and healthtech investments in the US and Southeast Asia, and support the firm’s portfolio founders.

Tan spent 21 years at Microsoft, where he became corporate vice president and managing director of Microsoft Research, and built and led Microsoft Health Futures.

SeaX said Tan had also been appointed to the Singapore government’s newly established Scientific Advisory Board for AI Singapore, where he will advise the government on AI.

SeaX raised US$60 million for its second fund in 2022 and said it invests globally in early-stage companies across sectors including AI and biotech, typically writing cheques of US$500,000 to US$5 million.
