Sea, the Singapore-based tech group behind ecommerce platform Shopee, said on June 22 that it signed a partnership with OpenAI to expand AI use across its businesses in Southeast Asia and Brazil. The agreement includes ChatGPT features for Shopee shoppers and business tools for sellers.

Shopee is now available in ChatGPT in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Brazil. Users can discover products through conversational prompts in ChatGPT before completing purchases on Shopee.

Sea said eligible Shopee sellers will receive trials of ChatGPT for Business to help with product listings, marketing, customer service, and operations. The effort builds on moves by Sea and OpenAI to expand access to OpenAI tools through ShopeeVIP.

The announcement comes as regional rivals also build AI tools for merchants. Lazada said 67% of sellers were satisfied with its existing AI features.
