SBI, Mesh, Money Forward plan Japan crypto payments joint venture
SBI Holdings, the US-based crypto infrastructure firm Mesh, and Money Forward, a Tokyo-listed Japanese fintech company, said they agreed in principle to form a joint venture in Japan in 2026.
The venture to support digital asset purchases, transfers, and payments through application programming interface integrations and on-chain payment infrastructure.
The proposed company, Mesh SBI Money Forward Network KK, will focus on the Japanese market. Its establishment remains subject to final agreements, internal procedures, and any required regulatory steps.
The companies said the venture will explore services linking crypto exchanges, wallets, and other digital asset platforms, including tools for transfers, purchases, and payments.
Longer-term expansion into stablecoin and tokenized-asset connectivity and payment services will depend on business progress and the regulatory environment.
Under the planned ownership structure, Mesh Connect will hold 60% of the venture, SBI Group will own 26%, and Money Forward will hold 14%.
