Saudi Arabia bets on data centers to support AI ambitions
Saudi Arabia is expanding its AI efforts through Humain, a locally based company owned by the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund.
Humain plans to build up to six gigawatts of data center capacity across Saudi Arabia by 2034, partnering with companies such as Nvidia, AMD, Amazon Web Services, Qualcomm, and Cisco.
This week, Humain announced a US$3 billion deal with Blackstone to develop data centers in the country.
The company also launched Humain One, an AI-powered operating system designed for users to complete tasks through speech or text commands.
Humain has deployed the system internally, automating much of its HR, finance, legal, operational, and IT functions.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
- Humain plans 6 GW by 2034, yet only a 100 MW site with power for next year is locked in 1. Two more builds of that size in Riyadh and Dammam target Q2 2026 2.
- The timeline needs grid links plus power purchase agreements across phases, and site plans with power beyond 200 MW remain undisclosed.
- AirTrunk has a $3 billion partnership 3 within a $77 billion program 4. That puts capital in play, yet the move from 200 MW to 6,000 MW in nine years needs clear plans for land and power, with phased rollout details still undisclosed. The company is a data center developer focused on hyperscale sites across Asia-Pacific.
- Saudi Arabia’s data center market will add over 2.7 GW by 2029 5. That growth drives buys for cooling, power gear, and network hardware. Tenders include a data center maintenance bid at the University of Hail 6 and a disaster recovery modernization notice at Saudi Export-Import Bank (Saudi EXIM) 7, a state-owned trade finance lender.
- International suppliers can bid on the Etimad platform 8, the government e-procurement portal. Only 1% of Humain’s AI processing users are domestic 1, so foreign contractors can join builds for global clients.
- Vendors plus infrastructure investors can track registration needs with local content rules on TendersInfo 9 for visibility. Neom, Saudi Arabia’s planned megacity, is preparing a 1.5 GW facility 3. Amazon Web Services (AWS) advances a $5 billion AI Zone 2 from planning to build stages.
