Samsung’s biotech arm launches cancer-drug screening with organoids

Samsung Biologics has launched a drug screening service using organoids

This marks its entry into contract research alongside its existing biologics development and manufacturing services.

The service, named Samsung Organoids, focuses on screening anti-cancer drug candidates derived from cancer cells.

Organoids are three-dimensional models created from stem or tissue cells, designed to replicate human organ functions.

These models are increasingly used in the pharmaceutical industry due to their relevance to patient conditions.

Samsung Biologics reported that its organoid services comply with Good Manufacturing Practice standards and is supported by 359 regulatory approvals, including from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Samsung aims to grow in the rising organoid market, projected to hit US$3.3 billion by 2030, as it adds preclinical research to its portfolio.
