Samsung Electronics was the top global supplier of automotive memory chips in 2025, overtaking Micron, a memory chipmaker from the US.

Samsung’s share of the global automotive memory chip market rose to 40% from 35% in 2024, while Micron’s fell to 36% from 40%, according to S&P Global Mobility.

Market watchers attributed the shift partly to Samsung’s broader presence in China and rising demand for advanced memory chips used in autonomous driving and in-vehicle infotainment systems.

That demand includes high-performance low-power double data rate dynamic random-access memory, or LPDDR DRAM, such as LPDDR5X for centralized automotive systems handling advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment workloads.

A Partstat summary of S&P Global data said Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron supply about 88% of automotive DRAM, and prices for some older-generation memory chips could rise 70% to 100% in 2026.

Automakers also may not easily switch suppliers once memory chips are qualified for a vehicle platform.
